KERN COUNTY, Calif. | In honor of National First Responders Day, the Kern County Fire Department (KCFD) extends its deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who selflessly serve on the front lines, and to our community for its unwavering support and encouragement. Today, we recognize not only the courage and dedication of first responders but also the invaluable support from the people of Kern County, which empowers us to continue our mission.
Today, at a heartfelt ceremony held at Union Cemetery in Bakersfield, we gathered to honor two of our own—Captains Matt Haskins and AJ Albertalli—for their years of service, sacrifice, and mentorship. These two remarkable leaders have not only been there for fires and emergencies across California but have also dedicated themselves to guiding and training the next generation of first responders. Their commitment is a testament to the enduring spirit of service within our department, inspiring all who work alongside them and strengthening our entire community.
The turnout at this ceremony, and the ongoing support we receive from Kern County residents, serve as powerful reminders of how deeply our efforts are appreciated. Whether through words of encouragement, community events, or the simple act of trusting us with the safety of their families, the people of Kern County stand by us every day, showing a level of gratitude that renews our purpose and determination.
“As we honor our first responders today, we are equally grateful for the outpouring of support from our community,” said Fire Chief Aaron Duncan. “This bond between our department and the people we serve is what makes us resilient, ready to face any challenge, and proud to protect Kern County.”
On this National First Responders Day, we salute all first responders, every member of the KCFD, and every resident who supports us. Thank you for your trust, for your partnership, and for making our service possible. It is an honor to serve such a dedicated and appreciative community.
