Incident Narrative
ROSAMOND, Calif., On February 14th, 2024 at 1:22 p.m. Kern County firefighters responded to a report of a house on fire on Stagecoach Ln. Further reports stated that there was smoke and fire in a back bedroom. As Rosamond’s Engine 15 and Medic Squad 15 raced to the scene, their travel was impeded by flooding across the dirt roadway. Medic Squad 15 shifted into 4 wheel drive and traversed the flooded area. It was impassable for the fire engine however, and the crew quickly mapped a different route. The first to arrive, Medic Squad 15 found a double-wide mobile home, 1500 square feet in size with smoke showing from the rear, right corner of the structure. Bystanders informed the crew that there was a victim, injured in the fire. The Captain quickly requested an ambulance to respond and the Paramedic shifted from fire mode to patient care mode, providing the patient with advanced medical care. Engine 15 arrived and the crew took a hoseline into the home through a side door. They discovered the fire in the corner bedroom and aggressively attacked the blaze, containing it to the room where it started. The next arriving firefighters took a second hoseline into the structure, searching thoroughly for any signs of life. Upon searching beneath a bed, 2 small dogs were found alive and swiftly taken out of the smoke to fresh air. Firefighters reunited the dogs with their owner. Due to the nature of injury, an air ambulance was requested to transport the victim of the fire to the hospital. California City Firefighters located a landing zone and assisted the helicopter. The patient was flown to hospital care. Firefighters remained on scene, confirming complete extinguishment of the fire.Â
No injuries to firefighters occurred. The cause of the fire is undetermined.Â
