Incident Narrative
FRAZIER PARK, Calif., On September 10th, 2024, at 1:59 p.m. Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire on Mt Pinos Way, spreading into nearby vegetation. Engine 57 arrived on scene to find a vehicle fire extended into grass and brush, the fire running up the hill towards homes. Afternoon winds had just picked up, greatly influencing the spread of the fire. Immediate, aggressive action was taken by firefighters to protect the neighborhood. Hoselines were extended from the roadway and crews performed a direct attack on the advancing flames. Within only several minutes time, the fire ran through multiple yards and spotted across Walnut Trail. Firefighters from Engine 356 quickly jumped on the spot fire, knocking it down before it could get into a structure just feet away. Crews extinguished flames on decks, fences and trees, keeping the fire out of the homes. The forward spread of the fire was stopped at 3 acres in size. Hand crews assisted in the efforts with chain saws and hand tools, extinguishing smoldering brush and cutting containment line around the fire’s edge. A fantastic stop was made. Firefighters from the Los Padres National Forest assisted in the fight. The destructive fire did burn into one house, and was quickly caught by firefighters, preventing it from causing major damage.Â
All in all, one home was damaged and numerous homes were saved from the fire. No injuries were reported. The vehicle fire is under investigation by CHP. Due to the location of the fire being in a Federal Response Area, command of the incident was transferred to and left with the United States Forest Service.Â
