Incident Narrative
WOODY, Calif., Firefighters responding to the Berry Incident Wednesday afternoon could see a column of smoke from a distance. When they arrived they encountered a fire threatening structures. As their air support arrived overhead the pilots estimated the fire to have the potential to burn 1,000 acres. Undeterred KCFD firefighters went to work. They took action by directly fighting the fire while also relaying important information to incoming crews. Additional resources were ordered, and a barrage of water and retardant drops from planes and helicopters gave ground resources the support needed to gain the upper hand. The forward spread of the fire was quickly stopped. In total only 60 acres were burned. For their hard work firefighters saved multiple homes as well as an important piece of history. The fire was moving toward the Granite School, but it was left completely unharmed even though surrounded by charred earth. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
