Winter Weather Advisory

KERN COUNTY, Calif. – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Wednesday, February 12th through Friday, February 14th, until 4:00 PM. Rain is forecasted across the San Joaquin Valley, while moderate rainfall and snow is expected in our Mountain and Desert regions. Travel may be impacted during these periods, so please check your route before leaving and use extra caution while driving.

We urge residents to stay aware of local weather conditions and monitor for updates or changes. Additionally, we encourage you to “Know your Zone” by visiting protect.genasys.com and signing up for notifications in case an elevated evacuation status becomes necessary—particularly in areas that have recently experienced wildfires. These areas are more susceptible to mudslides and debris flow.

Zones in Advisory Status: 736, 737-A, 737-B, 738, 739-A, 740-B, 741-A, 747-B, 403-A, 403-B

Simple measures can be taken to prepare for an emergency. Some examples include having bottled water and non-perishable food items on hand, limiting unnecessary travel, packing a bag with essentials in case of evacuation, and ensuring your vehicle has at least half a tank of fuel.

Remember, the Kern County Fire Department remains on alert and fully staffed, ready to respond to any and all emergencies.

Free sand is available to help prepare your property and protect against potential flooding. Several locations are available throughout the county; however, please bring your own bags, as they will not be provided at the sites. For a list of all current locations, click here to access the Kern County Public Works page.
