Community Notification – Pile Burning in Alta Sierra

ALTA SIERRA, Calif., On Monday, February 10th, 2025, Kern County firefighters began burning piles of dead and downed trees, as well as other accumulated vegetation, in the community of Alta Sierra. This preventive pile burning is being conducted to eliminate hazardous fuels and reduce the risk of wildfires.

Pile burning, like other controlled burn operations, is a prescribed method to mitigate wildfire risks and enhance public safety. The Alta Sierra pile burns will continue in the days and weeks ahead, during daylight hours, weather permitting for safe burning.

At times, smoke may be visible along roads and within the Alta Sierra community, and potentially from other areas in the Kern River Valley. Residents are encouraged to stay informed on fires burning in the area through TV, radio and social media sources.

During the colder months, your Kern County Fire Department actively manages hazards in our community through prescribed burns and mechanical treatments (fuel breaks created using heavy equipment). We also encourage all residents to take this opportunity to maintain defensible space around their homes.
