DATE: May 1st, 2025
TIME: 1:30 P.M.–5:30 P.M.
LOCATION: Hart Park – Alfred Harrell Hwy and Mirror Dr
Today, the Kern County Fire Department will be conducting a Public Safety Burn in the Hart Memorial Park area. Operations are planned to be completed by evening.
What is a prescribed burn?
A prescribed burn, sometimes called a controlled burn or public safety burn, is a planned treatment to reduce vegetation in an area to increase public safety. Specialists develop this plan, specifying the date, time, and method to achieve the best results safely. The decision is made after an extensive and ongoing review of the location, vegetation types, vegetation moisture, weather, and burn history, among other factors.
Why treat these areas?
Public safety burns help prevent fires from spreading from the roadway into surrounding wildlands. This protects the landscape and habitat from destructive summertime wildfires. Additionally, these burns reduce the likelihood that the communities of Digier Canyon, Lebec, Stallion Springs, Bear Valley Springs, Keene, and Hart Flat will be exposed to dangerous wildfires. The Kern County Fire Department appreciates your support and cooperation to make these critical operations a success.
