Delano, CA-

Firefighters responded to a report of a building on fire in the 400 block of Jefferson Ave in Delano. While en route, crews saw a large volume of smoke coming from the reported area, and requested a second alarm response. Upon arriving on scene, firefighters faced a 9000 square foot senior recreation facility with fire showing out of approximately 50% of the roof area. As additional fire equipment arrived, firefighters breached the east doors and progressed hoselines down the main hallway.   As they advanced, crews tried checking rooms for fire, while puncturing holes in the ceiling to check for fire conditions above them. The Incident Commander ordered all firefighters out of the building due to roof structure compromise, and personnel shifted to a defensive action, attacking the fire from the outside. During the course of the fire, approximately 80% of the buildings roof collapsed inside itself, hampering firefighting efforts to reach the seat of the fire.   Firefighters are still on scene of the fire, and will continue to extinguish and overhaul the building and its contents.

No Injuries were reported during the incident, and a cause has yet to be determined.
