Taft, CA

At approximately 07:09 this evening the Kern County Fire Department received calls for smoke and flames coming from a building in the 400 block of 3rd Street in Taft, CA. A reinforced alarm was dispatched which included Engines from Taft, Fellows, Maricopa, McKittrick, and Bakersfield. A Battalion Chief from Taft also responded. First on scene crews found an approximately 1000 square foot duplex attached to a commercial store front with heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure and the attic. Crews made an aggressive attack and were able to confirm there were no occupants inside. The fire was knocked down quickly and was contained to the duplex of origin. The cause was determined to be burning incense in the closet. Four adults and 4 children were displaced from the incident. There were no injuries sustained to firefighters or civilians.
