Weldon, CA

At approximately 8:00 p.m. this evening the Kern County Fire Department was responding to a reported vegetation fire near Fay Ranch Road and Highway 178 in Weldon. While in route, crews could see smoke showing from a distance. Additional reports eventually came in stating the fire was a fully involved structure resulting in an increased response of engines. Once the first engine arrived on scene they were faced with a single family residence fully involved in fire and threatening nearby vegetation.  Due to high temperatures, additional engines were required to assist with extinguishment. Crews did a great job keeping the fire out of the vegetation. It took approximately 90 minutes to get a complete knock down on the fire and crews will remain on scene for a couple of hours to get full extinguishment. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind all residents to make sure they are maintaining the defensible space by keeping the vegetation cut down on their property and around their structures.
