Golden Hills,  CA

At approximately 10:30 a.m. today, the Kern County Fire Department received calls for a structure fire in the 20000 block of Mesa Drive in Golden Hills near Tehachapi. Due to their close proximity, Battalion 1 and Golden Hills station 13 were able to arrive very quickly. The first arriving unit encountered a 2100 square foot single family residence with a bedroom heavily involved in fire. Crews aggressively attacked the fire keeping it contained to the bedroom of origin and protecting other parts of the house.  Damage is estimated at $10,000 with $300,000 saved.

Two adults and 1 child inside the home were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector and were able to evacuate before the fire department arrived. Additionally a neighbor heard the smoke detector and called the fire department. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel. Crews remained on scene to extensively mop-up.
The cause is under investigation, but is believed to be accidental.

The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind you to check your smoke detectors regularly and replace the batteries every six months.
