At approximately 11:37 am, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a grass fire burning in the Kelso Valley area. The first crews to arrived on scene were faced with an approximately 2-3 acre fire burning uphill in grass and light flashy fuels with erratic winds. Fire Crews were able to utilize two helicopter water drops and an aggressive attack by ground resources to contain the fire to 12 acres. Additionally, a dozer fire break at the top of the mountain, that was put in place during the Erskine fire, was beneficial in keeping the fire contained. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians and no structures damaged as a result of this fire.
