Golden Hills, CA

Just after 4:00 PM this afternoon, the Kern County Fire  Department received a call for a structure fire at the 20000 block of Mini Court,  Golden Hills.  Station Engine 13 arrived on scene to a 2500 square foot single family dwelling with heavy smoke seen from the attic.  The first arriving crew pulled hose lines and completed a primary and secondary search of the home. The second in engine immediately secured a water supply. Crews where able to protect the belongings by covering with salvage covers and they were able to contain the fire to the attic. The fire was contained within 30 minutes. Engine 13 was able to arrive on scene within 5 minutes to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. Due to working smoke detectors, family members were able to be notified of the emergency, call 911 and exit the structure in a safe manner. Crews will be on scene for extensive mop up. 

Additional Information: This is the time of year for freezing temperatures. Always maintain your furnaces and always clean your chimneys for any build up of black soot. 

Maintain your smoke detectors and change your batteries during the spring and fall seasons.
