Just after 9:00 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a fence on fire in the 2700 block of Trent Street. While en route, firefighters could see a large column of smoke and upgraded the response. When firefighters arrived, they found the second story of a residential add-on unit fully involved in flames. Crews deployed hose lines around the home and made a search of the structure. The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes. One Kern County Firefighter sustained minor injuries when the flooring of the second story collapsed, causing the firefighter to fall partially through the floor. The firefighter declined medical treatment. A search of the structure revealed no other casualties. A KCFD Fire Investigator responded to investigate the cause of the fire. It appears the structure is vacant, however there are reports that squatters were living in the house at the time of the fire. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to this fire is encouraged to call our Tip Line: 1-877-FIRE-TIP.
