East Bakersfield , CA

At approximately 10:50 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department received numerous calls for a two story building on fire at the intersection of Niles & Orange in East Bakersfield. Numerous calls were received stating heavy smoke and flames from the structure and two additional engines were dispatched to the incident. The structure was determined to be vacant. Crews were faced with heavy vegetation surrounding the structure and winds that were throwing embers across the street and into neighbouring trees. Additional arriving crews started protecting adjoining structures due to the intensity of the fire. Approximately three additional structures were threatened but, crews were able to make a quick stop of the fire. The structure has a history of fires in the past and has been known to have heavy transient use. There were no reported injuries.

The fire is under investigation.
