Just after 11:30 this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for an attic fire with smoke and flames visible inside of a 4,000 square foot single-story home in the 16600 block of Johnson Road. A Reinforced Alarm was started by dispatchers. Residents evacuated the home prior to the arrival of fire crews. The first arriving crew encountered heavy smoke from the attic and requested the response to be upgraded to a 2nd Alarm. Fire crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire and conducted a primary search of the home. Firefighters removed portions of the ceiling to extinguish the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 45 minutes. Two adults were displaced by the fire.
