Structure Fire - 700 Block of Rosewood, Bakersfield

Just after 6:15 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a heater on fire inside of a 1,200 square foot single-family dwelling in the 700 block of Rosewood Ave. A reinforced structure response was started by dispatchers.  Residents evacuated the home prior to the arrival of fire crews. The first arriving crew encountered smoke in the living room. Fire crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire and found that the fire had also extended into the attic. Firefighters removed portions of the ceiling to extinguish the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 25 minutes. Three adults were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting with temporary housing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The home did not have a smoke alarm. Fortunately, one of the residents was awake at the time that the fire occurred. KCFD reminds residents to have a working smoke alarm. Test the smoke alarm monthly and change the batteries twice a year.
