Today’s Fire Activity: The Way fire presented significant challenges to firefighters today as hot, dry conditions continue. Air operations continued to make retardant drops throughout the day to check the spread of fire as it backs down towards Kernville. This evening at 6 P.M. California Interagency Incident Management Team 5 went into Unified Command with Kern County, Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Damage Assessment: Preliminary information indicates that eight residences were destroyed and ten outbuildings were damaged. A more detailed assessment will take place as soon as is safe to do so.
Public Meeting: Scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church located at 20 West Panorama, Wofford Heights 93285. Fire Officials and other agency representatives will be present to discuss the fire status, current road closures, and evacuation status.
Evacuations: Bristlecone, Sycamore, Sierra Vista, Needham, Loma Lane, Sargent Lane, Adams, Mountain View, Frontier, Burlando, Marvista, Rodgers Road, South and North Trail, Whitney Road, Grove Park Way, Silvermine Drive. Evacuation shelter established at Kern Valley High School on Erskine Creek Road in Lake Isabella.
