At approximately 4:41 p.m. Tuesday Kern County Fire Department emergency personnel responded to a house fire with reports of an occupant inside. Upon arrival firefighters found a home well involved with fire. Firefighters immediately began a rescue operation for the person believed to be inside the home. The search efforts were made in zero visibility as the smoke from the fire had already filled the home completely. While crawling through the home firefighters found the occupant unresponsive on the floor near the kitchen. Firefighters worked to quickly carry the occupant out of the home to receive treatment. After treatment was initiated the patient was transport to a local hospital for potential life-threatening injuries.

While rescue operations were underway other firefighters on scene began extinguishing the fire. Firefighters were on scene for a total of two hours working to completely extinguish the fire and salvage property for the home owner.

Firefighters on scene could not confirm the presence of working smoke alarms in the home. The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind our community to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in the home.
