Wofford Heights, CA

Around 12:12 a.m. the Kern County Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received reports of an unknown type of fire on Wildwood Drive in the community of Wofford Heights. Shortly after the dispatch of emergency personnel, additional calls were received identifying the unknown type of fire as a house fire. The response was then upgraded to a “reinforced structure response.” This called for 5 Engines, 2 Battalion Chiefs and a Safety Officer to respond. Two Engines responding from the valley floor encountered inclement weather, including snow and ice on the passes. Upon arrival firefighters found a double wide mobile home with several additions fully involved with fire and vehicles burning. The fire threatened several other residences and vehicles in the neighborhood. A relay pumping operation was established to secure a water source with the closest water source approximately 700 feet away. The fire was brought under control in approximately 35 minutes. During firefighting operations the temperatures were in the high 20's and low 30's, with a light dusting of snow at times. There was a single occupant that was home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
