Incident Narrative
DELANO, Calif., Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at approximately 6:50 am, Kern County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a reported garage fire in the City of Delano. A heavy column of smoke was visible to responding units and Engine 937 from North Kern State Prison was requested to assist. Firefighters from KCFD Station 34 in Delano arrived on scene first and the Company Officer reported a fully involved attached garage fire, with fire threatening a neighboring structure to the north. Firefighters on E34 initiated an aggressive fire attack and were assisted by additional KCFD firefighters as they arrived.
The fire was brought under control after extending into the structure's attic. Despite an aggressive and swift fire attack, the structure suffered significant damage and several vehicles, tools, and miscellaneous equipment were either a total loss, or were severely damaged.
Firefighters remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and to assist the residents with immediate recovery efforts. A California Fire Foundation SAVE card was issued to the occupants for immediate use. Two adults, three children, and one dog were displaced. There were no injuries or fatalities. The cause is undetermined.
