Incident Narrative

CALIENTE, Calif. | On Tuesday, February 18th, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a reported train derailment involving hazardous materials on Caliente Bodfish road, two miles north of highway 58. Responding firefighters requested the hazardous materials response team to assist. 

KCFD Engine 11 arrived on scene and confirmed that a train had indeed derailed, with a total of 15 railcars, including tankers off the tracks. The crew assessed the damage, finding no apparent leaks or victims of the derailment. A Union Pacific Railroad representative confirmed that all affected tank cars were empty and posed no hazard. The emergency response was canceled, and the incident was handed over to Union Pacific Railroad. No injuries were reported.
