Incident Narrative
TAFT, Calif., On January 28th at 12:13pm, Kern County Fire units from Taft, Maricopa and McKittrick were dispatched to a reinforced structure fire at a 10,000 sq. ft., two-story, vacant commercial structure located at 401 Center Street. Firefighters reported an active fire on the second floor of the structure upon arrival. A second alarm was requested, for addition equipment and personnel, due to the size of the structure and access issues in the boarded-up building. Kern County firefighters used a tactic know as transitional fire attack by applying water from the outside to keep the fire in check, while firefighters worked to gain access to the inside of the building. Once firefighters forced entry into the structure, they were able to totally control the remaining fire. Firefighters searched the building for victims and found none. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
