BAKERSFIELD, Calif., At 5:53 a.m. on December 6, 2023, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a report of a house on fire on the 100 block of Sterling Rd in East Bakersfield. Kern County fire units had just been released from a rescue in the Kern River Canyon and had smoke showing as they responded. Arriving on scene, firefighters had a single story house, approximately 1,000 square feet in size with heavy fire showing from the front corner of the home. The crew immediately pulled a hose line and began to attack the fire. As more fire engines arrived on scene, additional hose lines were extended to fight fire to the rear of the structure. Due to extensive fire damage, electrical shutoffs were unable to be located adding to the hazards of the fire scene. Victim searches were quickly completed the house was found to be all clear. The fire was knocked down and crews remained on scene to ensure full extinguishment.Â
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.Â
