Incident Narrative
ROSAMOND, Calif., On June 14, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Kern County firefighters responded to reports of a backyard fire threatening multiple homes near Stagecoach Lane and Monteverde Road. A column of thick black smoke was visible from miles away.
Firefighters arrived to find a rapidly escalating firestorm. Strong winds, dry vegetation, and yards cluttered with belongings had fueled the flames, driving the fire into multiple homes, outbuildings, and vehicles. One home was already reduced to rubble. The fire had jumped the road and was threatening homes on the next block.
Crews quickly split into two groups: a Structure Group to protect homes and a Wildland Group to combat the spreading flames. The fire continued to spot across the road, with embers igniting new fires hundreds of feet away. Overhead power lines, venting propane tanks, limited water supply, and large amounts of personal property posed significant hazards and challenges as firefighters fought to halt the fire’s advance.
The fire was contained, but not before it consumed over seven acres, two homes, five RVs, and at least a dozen vehicles. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the firefighters, the blaze was stopped before it could damage more of the neighborhood.
Thorough searches of the affected area confirmed there were no victims. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
