BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. At 10:21 a.m. on June 19th, 2024, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of brush on fire off Elk Hills Rd. near Skyline Rd. The fire was approximately 20 acres in size when firefighters took action. No structures were threatened. Air resources, tankers and helicopters, coordinated with ground crews and dozers. Each supported the other as they fought to control the fire’s growth. Several spot fires occurred but were immediately attacked and controlled. The fire’s forward spread was stopped at 528 acres. Crews remained on scene into the afternoon, improving the fire’s perimeter and extinguishing hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
