Incident Narrative
Sunday, just before 12 noon, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a motorcycle rider suffering a medical emergency. The location of the rider was received in the form of coordinates, a remote area near Piute Mountain Rd and Jawbone Canyon Rd. KCFD Helicopter 408 was requested to augment the standard response of fire equipment.
H408 responded into the area and quickly located the person who reported the emergency. The patient was located another 200 yards from the reporting party, downhill. The rescuer on H408 was lowered via hoist, due to no suitable landing area. Shortly after the rescuer was on the ground additional Kern County firefighters arrived on scene and assisted with patient care and packaging.
Kern County EMS was contacted requesting permission to transport by BLS Air (H408). This request would allow for the patient to be flown directly to the hospital, by H408, from the incident. The request was approved and, after lifting the patient into the helicopter by hoist, medical interventions were continued by firefighters en route to the hospital.
