Incident Narrative

TAFT, Calif., Sunday morning, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a fast-moving fire involving multiple homes. When firefighters arrived, massive flames were spreading from one home to a nearby fence and second home. A coordinated effort between firefighters allowed an aggressive attack to begin on the fire, while other firefighters completed victim searches and protected additional properties from fire spread. During firefighting operations downed charged powerlines were identified, creating an additional hazard to firefighters. Firefighters cautiously continued around the hazard and were able to get a knockdown on all fires. While on scene firefighters assisted the property owners with salvaging belongings while completing overhaul to ensure no hot-spots remained. One citizen initially reported feeling ill but refused transport for treatment. No other injuries were reported on scene by civilians or firefighters.
