TEHACHAPI, Calif., At approximately 11:34 a.m. on October 10, 2023, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a report of a vegetation fire moving up the hillside in the community of Golden Hills. On their arrival, Battalion 1 and Engine 12 found a fire about 1 acre in size, spreading slowly in grass and small brush. Direct action was immediately taken on the fire as it crept towards nearby homes. Fire apparatus parked in driveways and drove into yards ready to defend the exposed residences. 

After providing for the protection of life and property, attention was directed at the blaze working its way up the slope. Air resources were loosed. Helicopters doused the flames with water drops and air tankers painted the hillside with fire retardant. KCFD hand crews, using chainsaws and hand tools, put in fire line, eliminating the fire's ability to spread. Within minutes the fire was smothered, and the danger quelled. Thanks to the rapid response and the diversity of Kern County Fire resources, the Park Fire was held to 2.3 acres. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
