Incident Narrative
Tuesday, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of two hikers in distress on the Pacific Crest Trail. Helicopter 408 was started to assist with locating, and possibly hoisting, the two hikers with unknown injuries or medical issues. While en route, patient updates were obtained by the Kern County Emergency Communications Center and relayed to all incoming resources, including the patient description and nature of emergency. H408 made contact with both hikers after lowering the rescuer down into an open area. Upon contact, Rescuer 408 advised that both hikers would need to be hoisted out. H408's crew hoisted the first hiker, but due to power limitations could not get both in one hover. H408 transported the first hiker to awaiting fire equipment. H408 then returned to the scene, and hoisted the second hiker and retrieved Rescuer 408. Patient care of both hikers was transferred to Halls Ambulance.
