Incident Narrative

At 1:55 am Kern County firefighters from Lost Hills and McKittrick, CA were dispatched to a possible crash or a vehicle stuck in the mud. E26, from Lost Hills, arrived first on scene and determined that the vehicles involved were a semi, that was stuck in the mud, and a semi box truck that collided into the rear of the stuck semi. The cab of the box truck was crushed, with the driver still pinned inside. Due to the technical nature of extricating the victim, additional equipment was requested, including an Urban Search and Rescue unit. USAR52’s winch equipment was used to pull the vehicles apart, providing enough space to access the trapped driver. Fire crews worked in foot-deep mud to successfully remove the patient. EMS was provided on scene and the victim was transported by Hall Ambulance to a local hospital.
