Incident Narrative
KEENE, Calif., Wednesday afternoon, Kern County firefighters responded to reports of several brush fires burning along Woodford-Tehachapi Rd. As personnel were dispatched fire department supervisors began to move resources and adjust the response due to the potential for rapid fire growth.
When KCFD firefighters arrived, the fire was two acres in size and burning down into a steep overgrown drainage. As they took action the Feather River Hotshots showed up. By coincidence they were driving down Highway 58 and seeing the smoke they stopped to help. Side by side the separate agencies worked as one. Within hours the Incident Commander could announce the forward spread of the fire had been stopped. Although the spreading fire had been stopped at 4.6 acres, it would take firefighters working through the night and into Thursday to reach full containment in the heavy smoldering vegetation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
