Incident Narrative
LOST HILLS, Calif., On November 7th, 2023, at 11:07 a.m. Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire near Highway 33 and Lerdo Highway. A column of smoke was visible in the distance as fire units responded. Upon their arrival, firefighters were faced with a wildfire approximately 30 acres in size, being driven by moderate winds. The area was flat, oilfield land. Due to the wind, firefighters witnessed the fire leap a road and continue to run. With an air tanker and KCFD Helicopter 408 assisting from the sky, the ground resources worked to cut of the fire's spread. Utilizing a mobile attack, fire vehicles flowed water while driving the fire's edge. The burn was halted at 86 total acres. No damage was allowed to the nearby oil facilities.Â
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was privately owned, arching power lines.
