Incident Narrative
TEHACHAPI, Calif., At approximately 10:54 a.m. Thursday morning, KCFD Helicopter 407 was requested to respond to a reported off-road vehicle accident near the Pacific Crest Trail, southeast of Tehachapi. GPS coordinates received from persons with the injured motorcycle rider confirmed the patient was in a remote area with limited vehicle access. Once over the reported area, Helicopter 407 was able to quickly locate the injured rider on a steep hillside at the top of Bean Canyon, east of Oak Creek. A rescuer onboard Helicopter 407 was lowered down to the remote scene via hoist and assessed the patient. It was determined the patient would need to be extracted via hoist, utilizing a stokes basket, due to patient injuries. The patient was secured in the basket and lifted into the helicopter hovering overhead with the hoist. The patient was then flown to a landing zone on Backus Road, transferred to Mercy Air 14, and transported to a local area hospital for treatment.
