Incident Narrative
MARICOPA, Calif. | On Thursday, June 12, 2025, at approximately 10:11 p.m., Kern County firefighters responded to reports of smoke and fire near Hudson Ranch Road and Klipstein Canyon Road. The fire cast an ominous red glow, visible from a distance when looking southwest from Bakersfield. The reported location was challenging, initially lacking direct road access. Heavy equipment operators overcame this obstacle by creating roads using Dozers 1 and 2, working in tandem to establish a perimeter around the fire.
While bulldozers operated off-road, firefighters with pumping apparatus held positions along surrounding roads as the fire advanced toward them. This strategy created safe working areas and a substantial fuel break, preventing further fire spread with the aid of existing natural and manmade features. Crews worked tirelessly through the night to ensure embers from heavier vegetation and trees did not cross the fuel breaks. As of this morning, June 13, the Hudson Incident spans approximately 616 acres. Personnel remain on scene throughout the day to complete containment lines and extinguish all remaining hot spots.
