Incident Narrative
ARVIN, Calif., Sunday around 3:00 pm, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a working structure fire reported by multiple people. While firefighters were en route officers from the Arvin Police Department arrived on scene and began evacuating residents of nearby homes, threatened by flames. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully involved structure fire threatening nearby homes and a grass fire in a vacant lot across the street threatening still more homes. An aggressive strategy was implemented to simultaneously stop the fast-spreading grass fire while protecting nearby homes exposed to the intense flames. The single KCFD Engine Company stationed in Arvin continued without letup as additional KCFD firefighters arrived from surrounding communities; This included six Engines, one Truck, one Patrol, and ten additional firefighters to assist with incident management and support. Efforts on scene isolated the fire to the buildings of origin and the grass in the vacant lot. No injuries were reported on scene by firefighters or civilians. The cause is under investigation.
