Incident Narrative

WOFFORD HEIGHTS, Calif., Friday morning the Kern County Emergency Communications Center received a notification of a vehicle accident on Highway 155 near the Cedar Creek Campground. Icy roads from recent severe weather required firefighters to be extremely cautious while responding. With assistance from CHP, firefighters from KCFD's Glennville, CA station located the vehicle. The single vehicle accident was over the side of the roadway, approximately one quarter mile east of the Cedar Creek Campground and 60-100 feet down a ravine. The solo occupant had self-extricated from the vehicle. Firefighters made contact with the patient to begin assessment and treatment while the next arriving firefighters began assembling a rope rescue system. After the patient was stabilized and packaged, firefighters utilized the rope rescue system and a stokes basket to carry the patient up to the roadway. Patient care was transferred to an awaiting ambulance company on scene who then transported the patient to a local hospital.
