Incident Narrative
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Monday afternoon, the Kern County Emergency Communications Center dispatched firefighters to reports of a fire burning behind a home. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a wind driven fire spreading across nearly one dozen properties. One home was on fire and various outbuildings, fences, and personal belongings were burning and threatening other homes. An aggressive attack was made on the fire from different directions and properties. The coordinated, aggressive attack achieved a knockdown of the fire approximately 20 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene. Once knockdown was achieved, firefighters began rotating through a shaded rehabilitation area while mop-up of several smoldering fires continued. The rehabilitation of firefighters is necessary when they are responding to consecutive emergency incidents in extremely hot weather. No injuries were reported on scene by civilians or firefighters. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
