Incident Narrative
LAMONT, Calif. Kern County firefighters battled a 2-alarm blaze from Saturday night into Sunday morning, January 12-13, 2025, on the 8000 block of Di Giorgio Road. The fire, reported at 9:47 p.m., rapidly engulfed a warehouse, spread to a mobile home park, and ignited a yard filled with pallets and cardboard bales. Firefighters responding from across the valley observed a vivid orange glow illuminating the night sky.
The fire’s intensity lifted embers, sparking multiple vegetation fires across the road. Downed power lines, burning utility poles, a compromised natural gas line and access issues complicated the response. Despite these challenges, firefighters swiftly organized a coordinated attack to control the blaze.
Firefighters and Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies searched burning mobile homes for victims and evacuated nearby residences. After nearly eight hours of relentless firefighting, bulldozers from KCFD’s Heavy Equipment Facility were brought in to break up smoldering debris.
The fire destroyed three mobile homes and damaged two others. The American Red Cross assisted displaced families. No injuries were reported, and searches of the affected homes confirmed no victims. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
This is an active incident. Firefighters will continue working throughout the day to ensure the fire is fully extinguished and the area is secure.
