Incident Narrative
BAKERSFIELD, Calif., On November 10th, 2023, at 9:32 a.m. Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the area of Famoso Rd. and S. Granite Rd. Shortly after dispatch, responding units were informed that smoke was seen through an ALERTCalifornia wildfire camera. This location required firefighters to navigate back roads away from the pavement. Arriving on scene, firefighters took action on a grass fire approximately 2-3 acres in size. The fire burned on steep slopes, the terrain influencing the fire’s spread. 4x4 firefighting vehicles known as patrols were utilized to perform a mobile attack on the flames. Firefighters hiked hose packs, stretching out hoselines across the burn. The whole lineup of fire equipment was unleashed. Air resources provided support from above, including 8 water drops from Helicopter 408. Dozers, hand-crews, patrols, engines and a water tender worked together in a coordinated attack. Dozer operators pushed a fire line around the entire fire perimeter. This saved valuable time, allowing firefighters to quickly return to the communities they protect. The fire was contained at just 15 acres.
No injuries were reported. The cause is unknown.
