Incident Narrative

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., This morning, at 8:31 a.m. Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a structure fire on the 2000 block of Edison Hwy. During their response, heavy black smoke was visible from the reported area. This prompted the Battalion Chief reinforced the alarm, requesting additional firefighters to respond.

As firefighters arrived on scene, they encountered heavy fire in a commercial building, with flames having already breached through the roof. The crew from Engine 41 was tasked with fire attack operations, while Truck 41 deployed an aerial water stream to combat the blaze from above. Additional crews from the KCFD and Bakersfield Fire Department arrived and assisted in the firefight. K12 rescue saws were used to force entry through security doors on the building. Victim searches were performed, clearing the structure of any potential occupants.

All firefighters worked together, as a team, to bring the fire under control. Both fire agencies were instrumental in preventing further spread of the fire and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.

While performing these physically demanding tasks, two firefighters suffered minor injuries. One of the firefighters was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
