BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Yesterday afternoon, June 13, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Kern County firefighters responded to a reported vegetation fire near Mount Poso Conservation Plant Road and Famoso-Woody Road.
The wind-driven fire, fueled by tall, dry grass, rapidly spread across the hills north of Bakersfield. Due to the potential threat to homes, Evacuation Warnings were issued across multiple zones and an Evacuation Order for one zone.
Firefighters aggressively battled the blaze, relying heavily on air tankers and bulldozers. By late evening, they successfully halted the fire’s forward spread. Crews remained on scene overnight, extinguishing hot spots within the burned area. Work continues today, with firefighters assigned to ensure complete extinguishment and the safety of the surrounding area.
No homes were lost, and no injuries have been reported. The fire has burned 4,407 acres and is 50% contained. The cause remains undetermined.
