Incident Narrative

CANTIL, Calif., On May 1, 2025, at 3:54 p.m., Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a motorcycle accident with injuries at the Dove Springs Off-Highway Vehicle Area. Due to heavy rain and potential off-road access challenges, Station 83 deployed Scout 8, a UTV stationed in Inyokern for off-highway emergencies.

Patrol 84 was first on scene and located a single motorcyclist with moderate injuries. The accident site was approximately 2.5 miles beyond ambulance access and was made treacherous by steep, sandy, and narrow roads, compounded by the rain.

Scout 8, carrying firefighters and an ambulance paramedic, arrived shortly after. Working together, the team provided patient care, secured the motorcyclist in a Stokes basket, and loaded them onto the UTV for transport.

The patient was then safely and efficiently transported across the difficult terrain to a waiting ambulance, and then to the hospital for further care.
