Incident Narrative
Tuesday night, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle accident in a remote and inaccessible off-road area. A single passenger vehicle had gone off the roadway, becoming disabled several hundred feet below Round Mountain Road. Kern County firefighters and equipment were shuttled by 4x4s to an area close to the scene where firefighters could then hike down the steep terrain and make patient contact. KCFD Helicopter 407 was requested as a Hoist Rescue option while firefighters on the ground began setting up for a technical rope rescue. Firefighters extricated a single patient with non life-threatening injuries from the vehicle after which H407, flown by a pilot using night vision goggles, hoisted the patient to an awaiting ground ambulance. The patient was then transported to a local hospital for treatment.
