Incident Narrative
TEHACHAPI, Calif., Thursday morning, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a vegetation fire threatening multiple homes near the community of Golden Hills. A growing column of smoke could be seen from a distance by responding firefighters and via the AlertCalifornia camera system. Upon arrival, KCFD firefighters wasted no time attacking the most active side of the fire. Shortly after the initial fire suppression efforts were started additional crews from surrounding communities arrived as well as KCFD Helicopter 408. The coordinated efforts of KCFD firefighters on the ground and in the air, combined with good defensible space created around homes by residents, resulted in a fast containment of the fire and no damages to property. The fire was held to one acre. No injuries were reported by citizens or firefighters on scene. Cause is undetermined.
The Charles Incident was just one of several vegetation fires contained by Kern County firefighters on Thursday. Temperatures have begun to cool slightly but grasses and brush are still critically dry. Please avoid actions that could lead to fires starting and maintain defensible space around homes at all times.
