Incident Narrative
LAKE ISABELLA, Calif., Sunday, July 30, 2023, at approximately 5:30 pm, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a reported vehicle over the side in the Kern Canyon, HWY 178. Upon arrival, firefighters found a pick-up truck 30 feet over the side of the canyon. Three occupants of the vehicle self-extricated but were unable to climb the steep canyon wall. Kern County firefighters utilized a low-angle rope rescue system and stokes basket to safely return occupants to the roadway. There were no injuries or fatalities.
