Incident Narrative

OILDALE, Calif., Monday afternoon, a large column of smoke was seen by many throughout our community originating from the Oildale area. Around this time the Kern County Emergency Communications Center began receiving multiple calls reporting a motorhome fire. While firefighters were responding additional reports were received stating the fire was spreading to other properties.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved RV fire. The intense heat and flames were compromising electrical lines above and fire was spreading to grass and fences nearby. With multiple hose lines firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and stopped it from spreading any further into other properties. The RV was a total loss, but diligent efforts were made to search for possible victims inside as the fire was being fought.

After speaking with several witnesses and the owner of the RV it was learned that two individuals were making repairs to the RV when a fire started in the engine compartment. The two exited the RV, however, one person sustained burn injuries. The two then self-transported to a hospital for treatment.
