Wednesday evening, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a semi truck fire that had extended to nearby vegetation.
When firefighters arrived on scene they found a well involved semi fire and a vegetation fire spreading toward homes in the Hart Flat community. Operations were focused on stopping the fire spread toward the homes and extinguishing the semi fire (the driver was uninjured). This was accomplished through the coordination of air and ground resources.
After approximately 1 hour it was declared that the forward progress of the fire had been stopped. Acres burned is estimated at 16. Firefighters will work through the night trying to fully contain the fire. As long as firefighters remain on scene, working from the roadway, traffic can be expected to be impacted.
