Incident Narrative
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. | On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Kern County Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the area of Highway 65 and 7th Standard Road. Medic Squad 63 arrived on scene to find a single-vehicle accident that had begun to catch fire. Two patients required medical attention, and suppression efforts were needed for the car fire, which had spread to nearby grass and brush, involving approximately one acre. Additional resources were already en route to combat the fire, while Medic Squad 63 prioritized patient care and transport.
The wind quickly spread the fire over a large area, pushing it south and east. Kern County Fire, Bakersfield Fire, and the Bureau of Land Management coordinated their suppression efforts to flank the fire, using roads and natural fuel breaks to their advantage to prevent further spread. Once forward progression was stopped, all remaining embers were extinguished to ensure containment. A total of 151 acres of grass and brush were burned.
