HART FLAT, Calif., Early Tuesday morning, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to reports of a vehicle fire on eastbound Highway 58, not far from the Hart Flat community. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a semi truck fully involved with fire, with fire extending to the attached trailer. Crews made an aggressive attack on the semi truck fire, keeping it from fully engulfing the trailer. Since the scene location did not have a nearby water source firefighters implemented a water shuttle operation. A water shuttle is a process in which fire engines deliver water to the emergency scene after filling from a fire hydrant some distance away, and repeat the cycle until the fire is extinguished. No injuries were reported on scene by civilians or fire personnel. The cause was mechanical.
